An MTV Video Music Award is an award presented by the cable channel MTV to honor the best in the music video medium. Each year a Video Vanguard award is presented to a music artist with the most legendary videos.
This year, the VMAs took place on August 30th in Los Angeles. One of the most controversial awards, the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard award was presented to Kanye West. When he received this award, he gave a really inspiring speech according to junior, Ahsan Khan.
“I think he inspired many people and will continue to do so through his music,” says senior, Anna Deguzman.
At the end of his speech, he made a really big announcement, “I have decided in 2020 to run for president.” This news shocked everyone in the audience and the world. Some even thought it was a joke.
The audience gave a standing ovation as he walked off the stage. In his speech he admitted many things such as him wanting people to like him more, he also made a joke about the leather shirt he wore in the 2009 VMAs, and mentioned when he interrupted Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech saying, if he had the chance to “do it all over again.”
“Kanye West would make a really good president, he’s humble and inspiring and the people of our generation really admire him. I would definitely vote for him and it’s exciting because it’s going to be my first time I’ll be able to vote,” says freshman Rahim Khalil.
