Billie Eilish a 17 year old female artist wows us with her different yet empowering music video to the song “When the Party’s Over.”

Billie Eilish Pirate Baird O’Connell was born into a family of musicians and actors. She grew up with her elder brother. Her parents, Maggie Baird and Patrick O’Connell, were popular figures in the American entertainment industry and at the age of 8 she was singing in the Los Angeles children’s choir ready to be showcased and show people her talent.

Billies song ¨When the Party’s Over¨ is filled with her raspy vocals and the sad tone that is amplified throughout the song. Her musical style is not only different but so empowering to hear. What’s so powerful about this song specifically and the music video is the message it sends. In the song she expresses her feelings about damaged relationships and the reality of loving someone. Her music video especially creates such a statement to the viewer with the cup of dark blood she drinks then she cries out.

In the song Eilish wants to be rid of a damaged relationship, no matter how hard it may be to let it go.

“Don’t you know I’m no good for you/I’ve learned to lose you, can’t afford to,” she sings in the chorus.

She’s done everything she could to mend the broken connection, but it doesn’t work.

“Tore my shirt to stop you bleeding’/But nothing’ ever stops you leaving’.”

She believes if a couple stays together they could hurt each other even more. She goes on to talk about how people can be possessive in a relationship for his part he’s the jealous and possessive type, which is why she tells him, “I’ll call you When the Party’s Over.” In this piece she talks about how even loneliness is better than holding on to something or someone that is not meant to be.

In the music video there is such a sad tone to it. In the video there is a glass filled with a black substance that sits in a white room, on a white table. Billie is also dressed in white, staring at the glass, thinking whether or not she should drink what’s inside.

She brings the glass to her lips and drinks the dark liquid until it is completely gone. As if poisoned by the drink. Then, as she sings, the liquid looking like black blood comes out from her eyes as painful, gruesome tears.

This song definitely is one of my favorites and I can’t seem to stop putting it on replay. I hope to hear more amazing songs from this great artist in the future.

“When the Party’s Over” indeed feels like a song that Eilish has crafted beautifully. She is very talented. When she opens her mouth something different and beautiful comes out from it.

As for the message in the song it is very strong and creates a statement. The theme sounds dark and lonely and is hinting at a  love that has been shattered by the harsh reality of dysfunction and disappointment.
